Amman, May 3 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah II on Sunday said that improving the judiciary is a top national priority and that the government would strive to keep pace with best practices to protect justice and citizens' rights. King Abdullah spoke as he received the 2009 annual report on the work of courts in the Kingdom submitted by Chairman of the Higher Judicial Council Rateb Wazani. The King stressed the need to continue supporting the judiciary through providing the necessary resources and qualified manpower to help it carry out its constitutional role. The Judiciary, he said, had a central role in the overall reform and development drive, stressing the rule of law and the neutrality of the judiciary. King Abdullah also said that a clear working plan is needed to accelerate and facilitate litigation procedures and upgrade courts and other legal bodies to ensure justice for all and the supremacy of law with high degree of efficiency and fairness. Earlier this year, the King patronized the 2nd Jordanian Judicial Conference which culminated in the launch of a social solidarity fund for judges and court officers.
