Prime Minister, Bahraini counterpart discuss ties, Mideast
Manama, April 28 (Petra) -- Prime Minister Samir Rifai on Tuesday said that Jordan and Bahrain maintained deep and exemplary ties in various areas, and expressed keenness to enhance bilateral cooperation to serve interests of both countries . During a meeting with Bahraini Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa in Manama, Rifai said that the two countries were looking forward to cementing economic, trade, social and cultural ties to live up to the aspirations of the two countries' peoples. Jordan and Bahrain, he said, were keen to double the volume of bilateral trade exchange which stands now at $100 million annually. The two men stressed the importance of holding joint trade and cultural activities to activate the role of the private sectors in both countries. They also underscored the need to set an early date for the meetings of the Joint Jordanian Bahraini Higher Committee to explore potential areas of cooperation and activate deals the two countries had already sealed. Rifai told his Bahraini counterpart that Jordanian-Bahraini ties were historic and distinguished, expressing appreciation for care and attention given to Jordanian expatriates in the Gulf Arab state. The Premier outlined a number of mega projects the Kingdom had embarked on in energy, water, and transportation and urged Bahrain's private sector to launch ventures in Jordan. The premiers also discussed developments in the Middle East and a number of issues of common interest.
