Amman, May 5 (Petra) -- Prime Minister Samir Rifai said a new election law will be ready before the end of this month, mainly in the coming two to three weeks. Rifai said His Majesty King Abdullah II underscored the importance of holding the elections in the last quarter of 2010. The government, he added, was keen to implement the royal directives regarding elections and decentralization scheme. The premier, who was speaking in an interview with Jordan TV, said he was confident that the new temporary electoral law will contribute to creating a strong parliament to help the government shoulder the responsibility and face challenges facing the homeland. "The elections law and transparent governmental procedures would contribute to increasing participation in the coming parliamentary elections and make them a bright point in the kingdom's political history," he said. The government, he added, has built on previous government's debates with civil society, political parties, media, and youth and women associations. The King attaches great attention for the role of youth, who are a majority in the Jordanian society, Rifai said, underscoring the importance of youth involvement and participation in the coming elections.
